Absa launches mobile phone app


Absa Bank Tanzania on Wednesday launched a mobile phone application ‘Absa Mobi Tap’ which allows merchants and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to use smartphones to process contactless card transactions.

A Mobi Tap application will speed up payment processes for both buyers and sellers by leveraging smartphones as a point of sale (POS) terminal at zero cost. Customers can conveniently tap their debit or credit cards on an Android phone or tablet to complete transactions swiftly.

Absa Head of Retail Banking, Ms Lilian Ndabu, said the mobile app is a lender’s testament to remain focused on building a digital-led business agile to adapt changes to meet customer needs.

“As a digitally-led bank, we are committed to leading the way in digital innovations and will continue to launch innovative financial solutions that cater to the market needs and also produce products that address the challenges our customers are facing,” said Ms Ndabu.

She noted that the programme will revolutionise the way MSMEs run their businesses in the country as it is going to take away barriers such as time consuming and expand access to digital payment options.

The bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Mr Aron Luhanga said the lender will continue to pioneer digital payment solutions to ensure financial accessibility to customers which will enhance financial inclusion in the country.

“Various merchants, including Uber/Bolt drivers, restaurants, salons, hardware shops, and farmers, can leverage this innovation to run their businesses more efficiently…Absa Bank Tanzania remains at the forefront of ushering in a new era of digital payment solutions,” he said.
